Rainbow Song

Just picking up the media thread from yesterday: Norwegians have met the terrorist Anders Behring Breivik’s hatred with song. Yesterday (on April 26, 2012), 40,000 people gathered at Youngstorget in Oslo and sang “Barn av Regnbuen” (“Children of the Rainbow”) by Lillebjørn Nilsen, a Norwegian remake of Pete Seeger’s “Rainbow Race”.

Breivik called it “Marxist propaganda to brainwash school children”. The song is about accepting and embracing our differences, it points a critical finger at greed, and encourages everyone to work together for a better world. Breivik didn’t like that very much.

We don’t like Anders Behring Breivik very much.

But we’re not going to sink down to his level to tell him.

Four videos:

  • Video from the event
  • Slideshow with Norwegian song and English subtitles
  • Album version by Lillebjørn Nilsen
  • Pete Seeger’s original “Rainbow Race”

Please enjoy.
